Revitalise your hibernating home with simple suggestions.
Work from the top down, inside to outside, to avoid getting what you just cleaned dirty again.
Do one room, even one area of one room, at a time to avoid unfinished jobs. The satisfaction of seeing one room sparkle will make the hard work feel like it’s worth the effort.
Give away or throw out items that haven’t been used for several months and unlikely to be used in the next couple of months. Be tough! Ask yourself are you really going to use it again? Another option is to organise a garage sale to help get rid of the excess items.
Put items that are not going to be used soon but will be in the future into clearly labelled boxes. Stored in the garage or spared cupboard. E.g pack away winter items
Make small repairs. If you’re not handy, hire someone. This is a great time to check fittings and fixtures in the house, fridge and freezer seals and just giving the house a general once over.
Dust before vacuuming or cleaning the floor. Try feather or lambswool dusters, especially extendable ones for reaching above window and door casings and into corners. Household rags are invaluable for jobs requiring a damp cloth – natural fibres work best.
Get the whole family involved to make things go quicker. Organise a family outing as a reward once finished
Don’t forget your curtains and duvets. This is the perfect time to freshen up your curtains. If washable take them down and wash and iron. Check in between pleats for dust buildup or mould
To finish off, grap some fresh flowers and fill up a couple of vases around the home. As well as brightening everything up, it provides a wonderful fresh smell.
